βAnd out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.β Genesis 2:9a
I love that when God created this beautiful landscape we call Earth, he was both practical and joyful - practically, he created to provide food for its inhabitants; but joyfully, he created a world that is beautiful for the sake of enjoying it. When my mind is racing, I can be calmed by a peaceful sunrise. When my heart is overwhelmed by the worries of life, the sight of fierce waves surrendering to the shoreline reminds me to trust. When I am having a hard time mustering the courage to do the next right thing, I can be re-energized by a tough hike to an overlook. Contemplating beauty and being immersed by it can be deeply nourishing to the soul. It is my goal that my work in landscapes would remind us to break from the noise long enough to look around with fresh wonder every day.
